News: One Tunisian soldier die, two wounded in landmine blast

ONE Tunisian soldier was killed and two wounded in a landmine blast late on Sunday in a central region bordering Algeria where security forces have been fighting Islamist militants, authorities said.

Tunisian forces are on high alert after gunmen stormed the Bardo museum in Tunis last week, killing 20 foreign tourists in the worst attack in the North African country in more than a decade.

Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, on Monday, described an allegation of extortion levelled against her by the Rivers State Governor and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, as laughable.

Amaechi had, on Saturday, claimed that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, had been paying $1m (N199m) monthly to Mrs. Jonathan.

The governor had claimed that Wike was giving the money to the President’s wife in order to gain political favour.

New York - Madonna added her voice to the controversy surrounding fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, telling them to "think before you speak" after Dolce described children born to gay couples through fertility treatment as "synthetic."

The performer joined other celebrities who criticized the Italian duo when she posted a message on Instagram along with a photograph of herself and a baby from Dolce & Gabbana's 2010/2011 winter collection campaign.

News: Poll: Ogun police strategise to handle flashpoints


The Ogun Police Command says it has mapped out the flashpoints in the state, and adequate security measures to be deployed are already in place.

The state police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, spoke with our correspondent on Monday.

Though he refused to mention or list the flashpoints, he said more policemen would be deployed from Abuja and Lagos, to augment the one on the ground in the state.

He said, “We have identified the flashpoints, and I will not reveal that to you. But all I can say is that we have put in place security measures to take care of the flashpoints and I want to assure the people of Ogun State that we are fully prepared.”

Adejobi added that the command would provide adequate security for members of the National Youth Service Corps, workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission and other stakeholders who would be involved in the election.

The lawsuit over Bieber's behaviour while living in a gated community in the celebrity enclave of Calabasas seeks more than $25k in damages for assault and battery, trespassing and infliction of emotional distress claims.

News: ‘Brainwashed’ foreign medical students went to Syria

ONCE again, the lure of ISIS may have ensnared another group of foreigners this time, medical students suspected of traveling to Syria to work in ISIS-controlled hospitals.

The group of 11 people includes seven Britons, an American, a Canadian and two Sudanese, Turkish lawmaker Mehmet Ali Ediboglu told CNN on Sunday. Ediboglu, an opposition Turkish lawmaker, told The Observer that he had spoken with the students’ families, who were convinced their loved ones wanted to work for ISIS and were asking him for help tracking them down in neighboring Syria.

“They have been cheated, brainwashed. That is what I, and their relatives, think,” Ediboglu said, according to the newspaper. But he also stressed that the group did not travel with the intention of joining the battle.

News: Explosion rocks Ogun community, shatters teenager’s arm


An explosion has shattered the arm of a teenager, Olawale Adekanbi, and caused confusion at the Agbado community in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The 17-year-old was said to be running an errand for his parents and saw a round object on the road which he reportedly kicked with his foot.

FINESTOUCH learnt that as the victim approached the main road, he decided to pick the object with his hand.

Soon after he did, the object exploded.
