News: 3 die in Lagos boat accident

Three persons died in a boat mishap in the Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three, including a director with the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Olakunle Adewale, died when their boat capsised.

News: Bauchi: Gunmen storm polling unit, set materials ablaze


Some unidentified gunmen on Saturday stormed a polling unit in Bagurun Primary School of Darazo local government area of Bauchi state, firing gunshots sporadically into the air and forcing voters to scamper for safety.

This is contained in a statement signed by the spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed, and made available to newsmen.

News: Bayelsa Gov. dissatisfied with performance of card readers



Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the card readers used for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Dickson expressed his dissatisfaction shortly after casting his vote alongside his wife, Rachel Dickson, at the Oru-erewari Polling Unit 5, Ward 2, in Toru-Orua, Sagbama local government area of the state.

The General Election held in Anambra State yesterday, suffered set back due to late arrival of materials and card-reader failure although there was large turnout of electorates across the state.

A Guardian survey around the state shows that voters complained of late arrival of materials, characterized by late coming of the INEC officials in various polling centers including Akogoli square 11, Umudioka Ward 111, Amawbia Cenral School ward 1 and 11, Umuokpu ward 7, Nmini Ward 11 Nwafia, Enugu-Ukwu ward 1V and V, and Boys Secondary School, Nri Ward1.

News: Card reader failure: INEC okays manual accreditation


The INEC has given approval for its officers to accredit voters manually after being sufficiently satisfied that the Permanent Voter Card belongs to a prospective voter presenting it.
In a statement by INEC’s Chairman, Information, Voter Education and Publicity Committee, Dr. Chris Eyimoga, on Saturday, the commission said this step was informed by the level of challenges encountered in the Saturday elections to accredit prospective voters.

Iyimoga said, “The Commission has, therefore, decided as part of the Guidelines for the Conduct of the 2015 general elections that in Polling Units where card readers have so failed to work, the Presiding Officer shall manually accredit voters by marking the register of voters, upon being satisfied that the person presenting a Permanent Voter’s Card is the legitimate holder of the card.”

News: INEC suspends election in Delta community over insecurity


The Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended election in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State after the police said they could not guarantee security in the area.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Anidi Ikowak, said in Agbor that some stakeholders in the area did not allow electoral officers to move voting materials to polling units.

He said the initial complaint was that they wanted to see the constituency collation form.

He said, “But even when the form was brought, they did not still want the materials moved.

“So the police had to advise that for security reasons, the election should be suspended.”

News: Hoodlums shoot at police, soldiers escorting Corps members

News: Unknown group hacks INEC website


The Independent National Electoral Commission’s website, inecnigeria.org, has been hacked by an unknown group.

On the website, the group, which displayed an election cartoon of President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari, identified itself as the Nigerian Cyber Army.

The INEC in its Twitter handle, @INECNIGERIA, confirmed the hacking, adding that it was working to rectify it.
