THREE DIE IN FIRE AT EX-TENNIS PLAYER'S HOME

Firefighters have found three bodies in a burning mansion owned by former tennis star James Blake, who was renting out the Tampa Bay-area house and not there at the time, officials said Wednesday.

Associated Press reports that hours after the fire was reported about 6am, firefighters were still there putting out hot spots at the 7,600-square foot home located north of downtown Tampa. It could be days before detectives are able to sift through the charred debris, officials said.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra guilty

A Thai court found Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra guilty of violating the constitution on Wednesday and said she must step down, prolonging a political crisis that has led to violent protests and brought the economy close to recession.

Reuters reports that the decision is bound to anger supporters of Yingluck, but the court did allow ministers not implicated in the case against her to stay in office, a move that could take some of the sting out of any backlash on the streets.

After the ruling, the cabinet said Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongphaisan, who is also a deputy prime minister, would replace Yingluck, and the caretaker government would press ahead with plans for a July 20 election.

EarthQuate Shook Southern Mexico

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook southern Mexico’s Guerrero state Thursday, less than a month after a stronger temblor hit the area, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Thursday’s quake, centered about 60 miles northwest of Acapulco and 172 miles southwest of Mexico City, happened at noon local time, the USGS said.

No reports of major damage were immediately made. All city services in Mexico City were working normally after the quake, Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera told CNN affiliate Foro TV.

The USGS preliminarily said the quake’s magnitude was 6.8, but lowered the number in the afternoon.

On April 18, a major quake — 7.2. magnitude — hit the same state, but there were no reports of major damage that day.
