News: Lagos committed to improved business climate, says Fashola

GOVERNOR Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday said that in the last decade, the State government has continued to devote huge resources to improve the business climate in the State.
Fashola stated this in his keynote address at the opening of the third African International Economic Law Network Biennial Conference (AFIELN), and Prince Claus Chair Round table on Development and Equity in Africa, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs,Lagos.

The governor who was represented at the event by the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye, added, “we recognise that as a sub national entity, Lagos cannot run ahead of the nation. We have therefore focused on and reinforced those areas that fall within our lawful control while also acting as a catalyst for reforms and enhanced business environment within the larger Nigerian context and community.”

He further disclosed that the State has continued to improve its legal and regulatory framework and embrace best practices.
He added that the State has as well sought to institutionalise a progressive and development oriented governance model.

The President of the AFIELN, Dr. Ashimizo Afademeh- Adeyemi, described the organisation as a global one which aims at bringing academics and government officials together in the field of international economic law.
He stated that some of the organisation’s goals include ;building links, fostering developments, encouraging research and teaching.
